Apple Planning Major ‘Solarium’ UI Overhaul in iOS 19 at WWDC25
WWDC 2025 is just around the corner, and as usual, the Apple rumor mill is heating up. This year, it’s not just about new features — it’s about a new look.
According to multiple sources, Apple is preparing to introduce a major design overhaul for iOS 19, codenamed “Solarium.” If the reports are accurate, iOS 19 may be the biggest visual update to the iPhone and iPad experience in over a decade.
Here’s everything we know — and what it could mean for Apple users. https://developer.apple.com/wwdc25/
🎨 What Is “Solarium”?
“Solarium” is the internal name Apple engineers are reportedly using for a sweeping redesign of iOS, including:
-
A brighter, more translucent user interface
-
More interactive and customizable widgets
-
New animations and haptics
-
A cleaner, modern look with a focus on depth and light
-
Revamped Control Center and Notification Center
Some say this could be a visual shift on the scale of iOS 7, which replaced skeuomorphic textures with flat design. But instead of “flat,” Solarium is said to feel lighter, more alive, and more immersive.
🧠 iOS 19: AI at the Center
The “Solarium” UI may also be more than just skin deep. Apple is reportedly baking advanced AI features directly into iOS 19, powered by new on-device models running on the Neural Engine.
Expected upgrades include:
-
Smarter Siri that understands context and multitasks
-
Auto-summarization for messages, notifications, and emails
-
AI-enhanced photo editing tools and filters
-
Real-time AI suggestions across Safari, Notes, Mail, and Calendar
These changes would bring Apple closer to the generative AI experiences now offered by competitors — but with a privacy-first approach.
📱 Compatible Devices
Apple is expected to keep iOS 19 support focused on newer hardware. Based on current info, the following devices should be compatible:
-
iPhone 15, 15 Pro, and newer
-
iPhone 14 and 13 series
-
iPad Pro (M1/M2/M4), iPad Air (M1 and newer)
-
Some models of iPhone SE (2022 and newer)
Older devices like iPhone X and iPhone 11 may not receive the full “Solarium” visual experience or AI features due to hardware limitations.
🗓️ When Will We See It?
The full reveal of Solarium and iOS 19 is expected during WWDC 2025, taking place on June 10. Apple will likely release the developer beta immediately after, followed by a public beta in July, and final release in September alongside the iPhone 17.
